Elizabeth Custer

Elizabeth Custer secured her own place in history by the promotion of her husband’s memory. Married to the man who was the youngest general in American military history, George A. Custer, Libby Custer devoted her life to her husband and to the preservation of his memory and his place in history after his death at The Little Big Horn.

Fiercely intelligent and ambitious, Libby Custer is a perfect example of woman who was the product of her time. Had she been born in the twentieth century, Libby Custer might well have achieved greatness on her own, but as a nineteenth century woman, her fame and fortune rested on the fame and fortune of her husband and his memory.
